Hey ladies, (and guys looking to get their significant other a handgun) since I work at a gun store, I get asked all the time from my female friends what gun they should get and which ones I like. I have worked at DEGuns since May and have had the opportunity to shoot hundreds of firearms throughout the year.
Here are my top 5 handgun favorites for woman based on comfort, design, price and functionality. My opinions are based solely on my experience with each firearm.
P.S. these are in no particular order.
First up is one of my favorites from Taurus, the G2C Sub-compact! If a firearm can be cute, I would consider this 9mm cute. It comes in 4 variations of tiffany blue and purple, priced from $229.99-299.99 which makes this pistol very affordable. Besides being visually pleasing, this handgun was very easy to get comfortable with and adjust to. The recoil for such a short barrel is very easy to control.
For someone who has smaller hands but likes a nice comfortable grip that makes you feel like you’re in charge of the firearm, this one is easily one of my top picks. It’s only 22oz. and has a thin polymer frame with a barrel length of 3.2 inches which makes it perfect for conceal and carry. You can check it out Here!
Here is another one that I really like, the Ruger SR22. Again, just like with the Taurus G2C, the comfortable grip on this handgun makes it super easy to control and handle for smaller hands. It comes with two different sizes of grips, so you can pick the one that feels just right for you. This handgun is also ambidextrous so left handers rejoice!
Weighing in at only 17.5oz. this Ruger is perfect for plinking, target shooting and even small-game hunting. Fun to shoot and easy to hit your target. With a price of only $369.99, this is a perfect little shooter to start your firearm collection. P.S. if you don’t like the purple it comes in 4 different color designs, including a unique paint splatter edition. You can check it out Here!
3. Walther Arms
The first obvious thing that draws you into the Walther Arms CCP is the cheetah print. Know someone with a bit of sass that could use a gun to match? Besides being a firearm you can match with your outfit, it also has a lot of cool features that makes it one of the most popular conceal and carry options for women.
The CCP’s SOFTCOIL™ gas-delayed blowback system uses gas pressure from the ignited cartridge by directing it through a small port in the barrel in front of the chamber to slow down and delay the rearward motion of the slide. This is accomplished by means of a piston contained inside of a cylinder located under the barrel that opposes the rearward motion of the slide until the gas pressure has declined after the bullet has left the barrel. This allows the slide to end its rearward motion, opening the breech, and ejecting the empty cartridge case.
Given the slightly longer barrel than the last two and weight of 22.33oz. you can be sure with the right training that you will be prepared if you ever need to draw your firearm in an emergency situation. With two safeties and an easy cocking slide, any girl would be happy to stash this in a holster or purse.
If cheetah isn’t your thing, it also comes in all black at $399.99, $459.99 for cheetah print. You can check it out Here!
Weighing in at only 10.6oz, the Ruger Talo is perfect for someone who wants to have a firearm on them or in their purse but doesn’t want something too big. The grip is removable, but I personally like the extra comfort and fit with the grip on such a small firearm. This is a Best In Class Lightweight Compact Pistol, and even though it is so tiny, I found it surprisingly easy to rack and load. My favorite feature is the trigger, it’s a short, crisp trigger pull with a single-action feel.
This Ruger is another that comes in many designs, with or without the textured grip frame. Priced at $279.99 – 289.99 depending on color variation. Super affordable and effective. You can check it out Here!
Of course I had to add my favorite revolver to this list, Ruger LCR .38 Special. I always felt that revolvers had more recoil than a standard pistol of the same size, but when I fired this one, it was comparable to a lot of the semi- auto handguns due to the polymer fire control housing that holds all the fire control components in their proper dimensional relationships.
Smoothest revolver for it’s size that I have ever fired, same goes with the trigger pull. The grips are interchangeable, so if you want something else that better fits you, you can modify the grip til it fits just right. It’s a smaller revolver weighing in at 13.5oz and 5 round capacity, despite the capacity, the LCR still made my favorites list at $449.99! You can check it out Here!
6. Sig Sauer
Last but not least, the P238 with the laser has made my favorites list, it’s 16oz of pure joy. I love that it comes in FDE, I always prefer FDE over black, but that’s just my preference. One thing that this pistol has that no other firearm on my list has is the Sig laser. The laser is really awesome for new shooters because when you go to practice you can take aim and see exactly what you are aiming at and make calculations accordingly. We all know the rubber grips are another thing that I love in a conceal and carry handgun. It comes with a 6 and a 7 round mag at only $499.99 You can check it out Here!
Alrighty, so those are my top picks for those first time gun owning ladies. Whether you are buying a firearm for yourself or it is being gifted to you, I would highly suggest coming in store and feeling out some of the grips to decide whats the best fit for you. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions about my favorites!
